Sep 5, 2017GREENSBORO Rebecca Estes Coffey, age 88, of Greensboro, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro. She was born December 7, 1928 in Caldwell County to the late Fred C. and Annie Rader Estes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Clyde Hedrick Coffey; and one sister, Karen Estes Morgan. Mrs. Coffey grew up in Collettsville, NC with her large extended Rader and Estes families. She graduated from Collettsville High School in 1947 and attended Virginia Intermont College before starting work for Western Electric, first in Gastonia and then in Greensboro. She married Clyde on June 12, 1956 and raised her two daughters before returning to work for the Central YMCA in Greensboro, where she retired after 15 years of service. Rebecca was a strong, independent, resilient woman who was intensely loyal and loving to her family. She loved reminiscing about her childhood and was a great source of family history. She was an excellent bowler and loved gardening, watching birds, walking on the beach and collecting shells. Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Coffey Achey and husband Steve of Greensboro, and Julie Andrea Coffey of Columbia, SC; one aunt, Florence Crump; and one nephew, Jonathen Frederick Morgan of Richmond, VA. A graveside gathering will be held Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir, NC.
